Policies
Penalty and Suspension Policy
Lightning Hockey Club (Club) will enforce all suspensions that result from Game Misconduct or Match Penalties incurred during league, tournament or exhibition play as directed by the lHSHL and AHAI.
In addition to AHAI, USA Hockey and IHSHL mandated suspensions, the Club reserves the right to enforce a “one for one” matching suspension. Meaning, for every game a player is suspended by our governing agencies, the Club will require the player to sit out an additional game.
While suspended, a player may not dress for game play, take the ice, sit on the bench or enter the locker room during any JV or Varsity Club games.
A suspended player may participate in practices and attend games as a spectator unless otherwise directed by the Coach, Club President or Rules & Ethics Chair.
PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE
Egregious penalties, repeated offenses and consistent unsportsmanlike conduct will result in progressive discipline up to and including permanent expulsion from the Club. The Rules & Ethics Committee will meet with the Coach, player, and player’s family to discuss the circumstances and recommend an appropriate punishment.
A player may appeal their punishment to the Rules and Ethics chair who will bring it to the Club board for a final ruling.
A player receiving a combination of three or more Game Misconduct or Match Penalties within a season will be recommended for immediate suspended from remaining practices and games without refund. The suspended player may appeal the decision and request reinstatement the following season. The Board of Directors reserves the right to determine whether a player can return to the Club.
FINANCIAL OBLIGATION
Fines imposed upon the Club due to a player’s behavior either on or off the ice are the financial responsibility of that player and their family. Until full payment has been made, the player will be suspended from all Club events, practices, games, and any other Club-sponsored activities. Additionally, the player would be considered not in good standing with the Club for subsequent seasons and alumni activities should the fine remain unpaid.
